The Chosen Patriarchs

The first part of Genesis  depicts God’s dealings with humankind as a whole from the creation to Abraham, a period lasting thousands of years. The second part Genesis chapters 12 – 50 concentrates on only four generations and less than four centuries. God no longer deals with the whole human race, but with a single family, that of Abraham, through whom God intends ultimately to bring salvation to all. Beginning here Genesis 12, the remainder of the Old Testament focuses on the chosen people, Israel, through whom God will work out His purposes.
