2 Interesting Websites About Biblical Discoveries

Bob Cornuke has traveled the world in search of Biblical artifacts. Examples the lost ship of Paul the Apostle and Noah’s Ark.
  1. Shipwreck of Apostle Paul

The account of the shipwreck of Apostle Paul is found in Acts 27 and 28. Paul, a prisoner, on a ship on the way to Rome encountered a storm. The ship crashed on the southeast side of the island of Malta. The people living on the island were non-believers. Paul began to preach to them.

In the early 1950s the anchors of Paul’s ship were found and are now in the maritime museum in Malta.

  2. The Search of Mount Sinai

Bob Cornuke and Larry Williams went in search of Mount Sinai. What they found was interesting. Mount Sinai is not in the Sinai Peninsula as so many have been led to believe.

In fact it was the Roman Emperor, Constantine’s mother, Helena, who arbitrarily chose the Sinai Peninsula as the site for Mount Sinai. Bob and Larry have discovered Mount Sinai to be in Arabia. They climbed to the top of the mountain and discovered charred rock. Yet when you break apart these rocks you find granite. They are not burnt all the way through. Then also found the area where the golden calf was built.

How Corrie Ten Boom’s Faith Changed My Life

Corrie ten Boom was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on April 15, 1892 and died on April 15,1983, in Placentia, California.

Corrie was a Dutch Christian who lived during World War II. Along with her father, sister and other members of her family, Corrie assisted many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust by hiding them in their home. They finally were placed in a concentration camp for their actions.

Her sister, Betsie, and Corrie never married and lived with their father, Casper, who was a watchmaker. They lived in their childhood home in Haarlem.

The Nazis invaded the Netherlands in May, 1940. A well-dressed woman in May, 1942, with suitcase in hand came to the Ten Boom’s home and told them she was a Jew. Her husband had been arrested several months earlier. She knew the Ten Booms had previously helped her Jewish neighbors. Thus the Ten Booms began “the hiding place”. Their home was opened to refugees – anyone who were members of the resistance movement.

On February 28, 1944, the Nazis ware informed of the work of the Ten Booms and they were arrested. While in the concentration camp, Corrie and Betsie showed great faith. They kept the women unified by holding bible studies and singing Christian songs. Their faith endured as the entire group of women stood outside almost daily waiting for their names to be called for execution.

Betsie died on December 16, 1944 from an illness. As a clerical error (hand of God) Corrie was released on December 28, 1944. She was not aware until later of the clerical error. She said, “God does not have problems – only plans.”

Corrie tells of the family’s story in the book, The Hiding Place. It was made into a movie viewed by many Christians. Corrie died on her 91st birthday after suffering three strokes.

Life before reading and viewing, The Hiding Place, was ordinary. Life as a Christian, especially in the United States, has no reason to live in fear and we enjoy the freedom to worship and read the bible without the fear of being arrested or even persecuted. We can share our faith with others without intimidation and ridicule.

Corrie ten Boom and her family showed what faith really looks like. Their knew their lives were in danger but continued to protect others who could not help themselves.

My faith today is stronger than it was in the past. If you are doing God’s will then He will continue to protect you and keep you safe.

Lesson I Learned From Ministry Class

After graduating from a two year ministry program, we learnt things, even though we were raised in the church, things about God we did not know. We learnt to have a deeper relationship with God and to be better able to share the Bible with others and bring them to Christ.

The Old Testament was primarily written in Hebrew with a small part in Aramaic. The New Testament was originally written in Greek.

The bible has been translated in a variety of ways.

1. Literal translation – attempting to keep the exact words or phrases from the original text. As it is faithful to the original text, it is sometimes hard to understand. Also, it keeps a constant historical distance. Examples – King James Version (KJV), and New American Standard Bible (NASB).

2. Dynamic equivalent translation (thought for thought). This translation attempts to keep a constant historical distance in regards to history and facts, but the writing style and grammar is updated. Examples – New International Version (NIV) and Revised English Bible (REB).

3. Free translation (paraphrase). This method translates ideas from the original text but without being restricted by the original language or words. Also eliminates historical distance. Although it is readable it is not always precise. Example – The Living Bible (TLB). The Message.

.

As we continue to share the lessons we have learnt from the bible, we hope to reach more individuals who might not know Jesus Christ. We encourage them to take a look at what He has done in our lives and want to share their stories using the Viral Blogging System.

What I Learned From helping the Poor

Caring for the Poor

Lev 19:10 And you should not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord God. Providing for the poor and the stranger ( people who could not own land) was a priority in ancient Israel. Reserving the gleanings of a harvest was an effective way for providing food for them.

God had instructed His people not to sweep through the fields a second time to harvest but to leave what was left to the poor.

Prov 19:17   He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.

God associates Himself with the poor and takes their plight personally. Helping to shelter a homeless family, or feeding the hungry child is a wise investment. The Lord may not repay us in the form of wealth, but with the honor and reflection of  His character.

Prov 31:8,9    8  Open your month for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die, 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

The duty of a king in ancient times was to defend the weak. These ideals were rarely realized in that time or even now.

Educational Book About Prophecy Of The Last Pope

Petrus Romanus is a book written by Tom Horn and Cris Putnam. In Petrus Romanus they discuss the prophecy of St.Malachy, an Irish Archbishop of Armagh, who lived from 1094 to 1148. He wrote a list of verses describing each pope of the Roman Catholic Church beginning with Pope Celestine II to the final pope, “Peter the Roman.”

This final pope ushers in the “great apostasy” followed by the great tribulation. The prophecy of St. Malachy has been hidden in the Vatican for hundreds of years. This book is compelling and should be read by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

  1. The prophecy of St. Malachy

In the book, Petrus Romanus, they review the history of the Catholic Church and how the prophecies of St Malachy play a role in the succession of the popes within the Catholic Church. It is not certain if in fact St. Malachy was prophetic or if the Cardinals referred to this list as they chose each of the popes using the description of St. Malachy.

  2. The last pope

Over 800 years scholars have debated the events regarding the last pope – “Peter the Roman,” whose reign would end in the destruction of Rome.

It is told that St. Malachy was called to Rome by Pope Innocent II, and while in Rome had a vision of the future popes. This became known as the prophecies of St. Malachy.

Three Different Styles of Prayer

In reading the bible, you will find several different types of prayers. The importance in our prayer life is to know what type of prayer to pray and when to pray it. Three different types of prayer are supplication, intercession, and praise and thanksgiving.

Supplication means to petition. To ask for something humbly, earnest entreaty, or request. As stated in Eph 6:18, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. NKJV Elijah and Solomon were men of prayer. We see in James 5:17-18 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. NKJV We see in 1 Kings 8:54-55 And so it was, when Solomon had finished praying all this prayer and supplication to the LORD, that he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. 55 Then he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel. NKJV

The prayer of supplication changes things. In Philippians 4:6 is states “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. NKJV Fasting can sometimes comes from a prayer of supplication.

We can pray the prayers of supplication concerning both natural and spiritual needs not only for ourselves but also for all men. We are also to pray for those who are in authority, including the unbeliever as stated in 1 Tim 2:1-2 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. NKJV

Another type of prayer is the prayer of intercession. To intercede means to mediate on behalf of another. We see examples of Jesus and the Holy Spirit praying prayers of intercession for us. In Hebrews 7:25 it states Therefore He (Jesus) is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. NKJV We see in Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit [is], because He makes intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. NKJV

To quote Oswald Chambers as he put it succinctly, “Jesus Christ carries on intercession for us in heaven, the Holy Ghost carries on intercession in us on earth, and we the saints have to carry on intercession for all men.”

Prayer of intercession means to pray earnestly for others. We must enter with our heart that really loves the Lord and cares about the things God cares about.

One of the earliest examples is when Abraham pleaded with God for the well-being of the people of Sodom as seen in Genesis 18. We see Abraham, instead of being overcome with his own needs, he prayed for those around him.

In the New Testament we see Paul’s prayers of intercession. In Philippians 1:9-11 it states, And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which [are] by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. NKJV Another example is while Peter was in prison, the church prayer fervently. We see this is Acts 12:5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. NKJV

Possibly the most important type of prayer is that of praise and thanksgiving. As we praise God especially in what appears to be a negative situation we affirm our faith in Him. This not only pleases God but helps us with our faith.

The prayers of praise and thanksgiving are power weapons to the believer. It destroys the hold of satan and unbelief in our life. Both of these can manifest in many different ways. It is no wonder why scripture calls praise a two edged sword as seen in Psalm 149:4-9 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.5 Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds.6 [Let] the high praises of God [be] in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand, 7 To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples; 8 To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron; 9 To execute on them the written judgment– This honor have all His saints. Praise the LORD! NKJV

When we give praise and thanksgiving to God it helps us understand just how awesome He really is. We should praise Him or how powerful, giving, and loving He is. We should thank Him for all He has done, is doing, and will continue to do for us. Paul tells us this in Col 1:3, 12-14 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. NKJV

Also, we are commanded to give praise and thanksgiving to God as seen in Hebrew 13:15-16 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of [our] lips, giving thanks to His name.16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. NKJV We see this command also in 1 Thess 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. NKJV

All forms of prayer are important and has a place in our lives as Christians. I feel most Christians get complacent with their prayer life. As we see above, it in necessary to pray a variety of prayers depending on what is going on in your life and for those around you. We must always remember foremost to pray a prayer of praise and thanksgiving daily. This alone will strengthen our faith in God.
